David Witherspoon
​Associate Director

Mr. Witherspoon is from San Antonio, Texas where he attended Judson High School. From there, Mr. Witherspoon went on to receive his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from Texas State University. 

As a student at Texas State, Mr. Witherspoon was fortunate to be able to perform with various ensembles including the Texas State Wind Symphony, the Texas State Jazz Ensemble, Salsa Del Rio, and the Texas State University Bobcat Marching Band. He held the position of section leader with the Texas State Symphonic Winds as well as section leader/lead trumpet player for the Texas State Jazz Ensemble. During his time with the Bobcat Marching Band, he served as Trumpet Section Leader for one year and as Drum Major for two years. As a performer, Mr. Witherspoon has had the opportunity to perform with prominent jazz artists such as Marvin Stamm, Brian Lynch, Andre Hayward, Bill Watrous, and Butch Miles. He has also had the pleasure of performing at various venues such as Carnegie Hall, TMEA, and at the Projazz Institute in Santiago, Chile. While attending Texas State, he studied trumpet with Dr. Keith Winking, Dr. Bob Cannon, and Freddie Mendoza.

As an educator, Mr. Witherspoon spent some time as an Assistant Band Director at Decker Middle School in Austin, Texas. He has also served as an adjudicator for various TMEA auditions as well as an adjudicator for various Drum Major auditions throughout central Texas. Mr. Witherspoon is a member of the Texas Bandmasters Association (TBA), Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. 

In his free time, Mr. Witherspoon enjoys watching sports, playing video games, and trying new food!
